Artist of The Week: Bandicoot
What a year it's been for Bandicoot and what a year they undoubtably have ahead for 2018!
Bandicoot are Rhys Underdown (Vocals / Guitar / Saxophone), Gareth Goss (Guitar / Vocals) and Billy Stillman (Drums) and have been bringing incredible energy to live shows and releases since 2013. This year alone the boys have played 2 headline shows in The Pit (Swansea), Gwdihw (Cardiff) and The Moon (Cardiff) alongside shows in Clwb Ifor Bach, Oxford, Summer Vibes Festival (Merthyr), Buffalo Bar, Hoyfest (Cardiff), The Hyst, The Moon Club, Volcano and the Swansea Fringe Festival. If you were lucky enough to catch them this year you'll agree that there's something very special about Bandicoot.
It's not just their catchy choruses, great guitar riffs and interesting arrangements that draw you in but the raw energy that they bring to every stage and every release never fails to get you movin' and shakin'. Their raw energy is hard to match.
Two headline shows and a slot at the Swansea Fringe Festival this year at The Pit (Swansea) proved this. The audience was amazing, not only in numbers but in the sense that every single person in the venue was up for a good time - a definite testament to the music and energy that Bandicoot bring.
I guess it's hard to pin an exact genre / direct influence on Bandicoot - with self confessed influences like Joy Division, The Smiths, The Doors, Radiohead, Talking Heads, Mac Demarco and The Stone Roses it's easy to understand why! But that's what's so great about them. It keeps things fresh, interesting and exciting.
Their footprint is already firmly on the Swansea music scene and they continue to go from strength to strength. With so much already accomplished and at such a young age Bandicoot are without a doubt ones to watch.
